Hotie

You know I recently noticed a trend here in the Ol’ Valley –O –Paradise. It appears to get hot and stay hot for several months out of the year. When we suffer with temps over 100 it is very hot…

One doesn’t go out outside of the air-conditioning between 10 am and 5:30 pm, otherwise it would make it hard to get to home from work.

One leaves ones car windows cracked open otherwise they will crack open on their own accord, especially if they have a rock or sand chip/nick. And that makes it hard to see through the windshield when the sun (or headlights) are glinting and glaring across the big a$$ crack not to mention the ticket one can get for being cracked up.

One does not buy candles or crayons in the summer, unless one packs them the ice chest (not a reference to cold heartedness) next to your ice cream, milk, butter or other “cold” storage items from the grocery store. I’m sure I don’t have explain what a mess it is to try to clean melted crayons from car seats, floors, dashboards etc.

Here is a funny piece of Texas trivia after a month or so of over 100 degree temps one uses the term “it is not so hot today in fact it is darn near pleasant” when it dips into the upper 90s. Isn’t that just the craziest thing?

All this heat, heat, HEAT could almost inspire one to write a poem
Remember last year’s Biscuit Days and the year before Summer Haiku? And the ones before those were lost to “old Blogger”

And now it’s time for a heat hot poem

Dry Frio River

Longing for the days of drifting
On the Frio River
Its silver threads flowing
Over smooth stones
That now blister in the sun
Or fall into the cracked earth

River, O river come back us

Free yourself and spring
Once again from the hard ground
Roam our Texas lands
To chill bleached bones
And quench the thirst
Of your leathered inhabitants

As a fellow Texan, I know just what you mean. I don't venture outside until 7pm and even then only it I must. Otherwise I go outside into the pool at around 9pm which is pleasant and a relief after the heat of the day.

Still, we've only got a few weeks to go now until things start to cool down.

Your poem sounds like a western story....I like it....we are still waiting for summer heat to arrive, I think we had only two days in the 90's....which is ok with me, but the weather is getting really screwy....hope your doing well, judy

Did people live there, before there was A/C? This question always bugs me... about very, very, very HOT places in our country.

As to my mentioning [on my blog] about looking at my Site Meter stuff, for the first time in ages... It's just interesting, to notice the ration of Visits to Comments. [Lots more Visits, than Comments, of course.] Do it, once in a while, I repeat. If I check too much, it's a bad sign. [That I'm getting addicted to Comments again. B-A-D!!!]

But even if I do not want to get addicted to Comments again - It's still ... what? reassuring maybe...? to see that people are Visiting my blog. But...

It's still probably *sick* of me, to even need to check this, even now and then. Why the Hell should I give a rat's patoootie if anyone reads my stuff?!? I should not! Not if I really like Freedom.

Because when I need ANYTHING, then I'm a slave to what-I-need or whomever gives me, what-I-need.

Whewwwww, there, I've exhausted my supply of Wisdom Of The Ages, for the day! LOL. And aren't you *thrilled* that I dispensed/shared it here?!? >,-)

Jai as far north as you I suppose you are beginning to expect a cooling down, but us down here I expect a coolness to roll in with Halloween then back to hot for Thanksgiving.
Yes to be sure folks lived here before A/C even myself. My folks did not get it until all us kids were moved out, most likely due to the issue of in and out and slamming doors and threats of death. But the body is an amazing thing we grew accustom to it and some folks freeze in A/C because it is not the norm for them.
Global warming is switching of the seasons as the Earth tits back on its axils in the opposite direction. Whereby a natural ice age will occur which means Texas will have all the pleasant weather and suddenly be overcrowded with more tourist so it’s a good thing it is so big.
Aunt Amelia you crack me up…on accounta I so understand the addition to comments. I turned then them once or twice to break my cycle and it worked for me. Heck I think I can go almost thirty minutes without checking them. Haha
As I type this I’m in my studio wearing a jacket because the A/C is too cold for my candy a$$

Boy, I wish I could have shared some of the extra rains we had here and the cooler than usual temsp we had all summer too for just a tad of the dryness and heat you have down there! I think we had about one whole week -in mid-August -that one could call "summer weather!"

I like the "silver threads flowing." Beautiful... I can hear the water.

And if it ain't 105 degrees it'll be flooding. Texas, eh? A wild wild wonderful place to be. Like your blog!

That is really..Really...HOT! I bet the highest we've had this year is like 96 and that was disgusting. lol.

I can only imagine what the indians did way back when there was no ac. Can you imagine NOT having ac? OMG

You've fairly well convinced me to never move to Texas. ;) Missouri is miserable enough, though this summer has been unusually cool. Wish I could share.

Loved the poem.

Add mosquitos and gnats to your heat and you have Mississippi.

I like your poem! I'm sorry it's so hot and dry there. Ugh. We've had quite a bit of rain this summer in East TN, and if I could, I'd send you some of our rain.

Great frio- "cold" poem!

I'd never make it in that heat- Gust loaf all day. Good luck getting back to pretty good days to play outdoors-
