Project? What project?

We finally got the new sofa, it’s 8 foot long and 45 inches deep. A manly sort of sitting space to be sure and I love it. Both of us, Beloved and I can lie down to watch TV together and there is room for baby girl (as long as she doesn’t mind feet in her lap) Have I ever mentioned how much baby girl hates feet. Oh yeah, the object of this post is the project not feet and not baby girl. See along with the sofa we got a big a$$ ottoman instead of a coffee table and because we weren’t sure how the fit would be in the living room we waited to get end tables. Y’all remember the Autumn Adventure we had and that forced us into all the newness going on in the living room.

Yeah, yeah on with the project already, I hear ya. Because the sofa is long it really didn’t leave room for the chair we had bought… a lovely navy blue rear back chair so it sits by the newly fire glassed fireplace, very cozy for reading and gazing upon my Beloved as he sits dozing on the darkt gray manly sofa with his feet propped up on the coffee ottoman. His glass of water sits on the floor. WHAT—What---what?

I looked and looked for end tables that would fit, not just the sorta style we have going on but also the peculiar space (lack thereof). I hunted in all the local furniture stores, found one that “would work” but cripie who in their right mind would pay $200 for one half sized end table that just sorta “worked”? Not me that’s for sure. Then one day while walking around the Wals-Mart I saw something that would be perfect. Okay almost…it was the perfect color, perfect size it just wasn’t a table. So I didn’t buy ‘em, but let the idea smolder and stew for a couple of days in my brain and thought what ta heck, even if it didn’t work the most I’d lose was like $75 and some of my Oh so available time. And I was pretty sure it would work so I bought 2 of ‘em.

Saddle seat bar stools. Sanded a bit off the top ends, to even the surface a little cause of the dip and all. Then I took some of the left over tiles from around the fireplace and did this

Found some faux wood trim at the Lowes store, painted it the same gray/black of the tiles on the fireplace, used liquid nail to adhere them to the stools, er I mean tables

And we ended up with these awesome custom made end tables! Yes 2 of ‘em for less than ah hundred bucks. And beings how this was TAX WEEK (yikes) I needed to save some monies.

There ya have it my dear internets, the completed and, I think, successful Project.

Now tell me have you done some type of project for your home? And if so How did it turn out?

Nice work, Paige! Those tables are a great success.

As for me, I sanded down the kitchen cabinets and painted them because my Lovely wanted it that way. Looking back, I'm not sure whether paying to have someone else do the work would have been a better idea. After sanding them down, I have placed five coats of something or other on them: primer, paint, crackle glaze, antique glaze, and then a clear-coat. A lot of work, but I think it turned out okay. Probably won't do it again though.

You did an awesome job Paige. Those tables are beautiful. From boring same-old to extra-special Designer chic.

I've stripped many a coffee-table. The raspberry coffee-table we have now was a badly scratched, ugly brown, monster that was donated to the local church. I got it and sanded it down a few times then painted it a beautiful raspberry. It's gorgeous! (Even if I do say so myself :) )

Wonderful tile job! Looks like those ex-stools are worth a few more bux now, too! Good for you!

Me no new projects until I get more time off- Mostly I'm just trying to get to washing curtains covered with cobwebs!
Lucky you with the 8' couch room- it wouldn't even fit in my teeny LR! Enjoy your tv lounging with drinks in reach!
Thanks for the home improvement show-

Those are nice looking tables, Paige. Great job. Me, I'm not the handy type, and try to avoid making things. I did put up a handrail so my wife can go upstairs again, and it turned out serviceable. But your tables look pro.

What a fabulous job you did with those bar stools! No one would know they weren't tables! I love the tiles.

I just recently renovated my bedroom with new paint, curtains, a drape for the walk-in closet and new furniture. I hunted all over the garage sales for stuff that would work just right and am really pleased with the result. I didn't put in the kind of work you did with the sanding and the tiles but I like the result all the same.

Those tables are gorgeous Paige! So glad you showed us the before and after pics. I wish I could remember to do those more often (the pics I mean). There's hardly a piece of furniture in my house that is used for what it was originally meant to be used for. I haunt yard sales every chance I get, and buy things Really Cheap that I usually have no idea what I'll do with at the time. Two years later I'll need an end table, or chair, or something and voila - there sits just what I need in the garage. I just have to transform it into what it is I need. But my favorite piece of furniture is one that hubby made for me when we had Thanksgiving dinner at our house one year and realized we didn't have enough places for everyone to sit down and eat. He built, completely from scratch, a 10' long oak farmhouse-type dining table, and benches to match. It's absolutely gorgeous. I'll have to take pictures and post a blog about it sometime, (if'n you don't mind me stealing your idea).
So, what's next?

You are impressive, m'dear! Those end tables are very cool.

My last project was painting an upstairs bedroom in cream, the trim chocolate. It's a spare room, and I wanted it to be a tad artsy fartsy, so I found some old books, er...cut off the covers (yikes) and put them in picture frames. Turned out spiffy, if I do say so meself.

What Stephen said. Those are fantastic. Functional, cute, fitting perfect with your home.

Come make some for me now. because if it isn't paper and glue, I have no chance.

Is that a cardinal on your bird feeder? We have squires here, cardinals, not so much. Blue jays and crows too. But nothing red and proud.

I was in the car the other day and started a poem, thinking of you.

But I don't have an ending for it. if I post it will you write an ending?

So many styles of furniture to reflect on and sometimes get nostalgic about. Fun to recall how cave people sit on huge rocks and different cultures use a variety of nature's wonders. Over-sized toadstools are not only for enchanted creatures. The softness of moss is multi-purpose. Thanks for sharing this insight into your journey.
