Food-it is all about FOOD

Zephra, Chronicles of an exhausted mom, posted a while back on her experience with some weird flavored milk. The milk wasn’t bad but it didn’t taste quite right either. I too have had this problem and it was not with the same brand of milk from the same store. I just have no clue why it was weird.

Anyway it brought to mind some news I heard about the approval, by the FDA, for the production of “cloned” food products--beef, chicken etc., for consumption. By people! It will not have to be labeled as such. It is estimated by “them” that it may take up to 5 years for these cloned products to be available in the grocery stores. Funny because I thought the normal time for organic animal breeding was shorter, but then I don’t have a ranch. Perhaps it does take that long to naturally create a cow, raise it to slaughtering age and then we rush out and buy that hamburger or steak. But somehow I think five years to be a bit long. Hey I know maybe it takes longer to make a cow the unnatural way? Or maybe it is because “they” need to figure out exactly what characteristics will be best for our hamburgers and steaks. Will they be better tasting or leaner and healthier? What kind of impact will these products have on young children and their yet un-created children?

Is it bad to “clone” for food? After all it’s not like they are creating life but more like just copying what God has already done. God created DNA, man can only copy it and manipulate it for good or bad.

Could we buy Organic, surely there will be some ranchers out there who will go strictly organic, but then how will we know what is used at restaurants?

Now stem cells, that’s something they should clone so it can be studied better and more intently without the loss of life. Stem cell research has already proved to be beneficial for hearts and lupus. And folks, please know that not all stem cells come from fetuses; they can be harvested from your own blood as well as umbilical cords. That is what they are currently using for cancer patients.

One last thing to ponder…

Which came first the cloned chicken or the cloned egg?

I think it's a good thing to clone food and manipuate it so it can be produced in difficult soil and so on. There is so much hunger in the world and they can hopefully grow it themselves where it's needed. Work on stem cells is so very important and as you say the cells they use need not come from fetuses.

what is organic can anything be organic today with polution in the air acid rain falling on the ground and cancerous agents seeping into the soil. will cloning increace production no. humans are getting cancer at alarming rates due to polution and chemicals and exposure to radiation.can we clone humans to be genicly superior to others . steroids are injected into animals and work there way into our bodys . god made his animals they way he wanted and the earth the way he wanted you dont need to reenvint the wheel . just another industry trying to make money . nature will that care of itself the strong will survive and the weak will die .

I hadn't heard of the stem cell for lupus. Hmmmm.
You're so right. Why do they think they need fetuses for stem cells?
Good post...I just don't eat beef or pork. Pigs are smart and cows are cute.
