Last Snake Story!

This would be my 5th snake story to share with y’all, but it is my first snake incident.

I was really little…maybe 8 or so. Up on my Great Grand Father’s farm in Indiana I was playing out in the yard on a tree swing. Grandpa was showing Daddy something out in the shop and beings how it was my turn on the swing my brother and sisters were somewhere else. {Cue music} Twinkle, twinkly little star…not that it was night time, but just cause I like that one. So there I was bare footed and swinging just as high as I could…man I was going fast…almost flying even. Daddy and Grandpa came out of the shop and were watching me. Daddy was being a Dad and asked Grandpa how long the swing had been there and how old the rope was and such…he looked up at the huge limb the swing hung from and likewise my eyes followed. “What’s that Daddy?” I said, and then Daddy came over and lifted me off the swing. The snake was climbing down the rope and once it got close to the ground Grandpa knocked it off and Daddy wacked it up with an ax. That is when I learned about snakes. So I hated ‘em every since. I don’t care if there are “good” kinds I hate ‘em all.

So that’s that. The last, howbeit my first snake story. I don’t know about y’all my dear internets, but I sure hope I don’t experience any more…cause if I do you will have to hear about it.

no snake was harmed in the writing of this story
but there was in the original making of this story

OMG! A snake, slithering down a rope towards you? Gives me the chills for sure just reading about it and if I were to be near something like that, you'd be seeing me high-tailing it in some other direction!
Oh and btw, I think I'm somewhat "unstuck" now. Your threat may have helped in that respect!

I can imagine how terrified your father was for you. No wonder he acted as he did.

Hi Paige .. your snakes are a little more dangerous than ours .. I had one uncurl underneath me when I stepped on it blackberrying .. and I aged 7 or so .. ran the scurrying tyres off my little feet to the bus stop to get back home .. toooooooo frightening .. so not so keen either- but age takes over and sense creeps in .. they be do what they do ..

Better now though .. cheers Hilary

That poor lil snake! Didn't stand a chance with Pa about... I hear some folks react that way to mice, spiders, n bugs too- like they don't deserve to live.

I've never hated snakes, n had a few I caught of the garden variety when I was young. See up here in New England, there's no native poisonuos species, hence no fear. No one taught me to hate them, either!

Oh Paige, thank goodness it didn't land on you before you saw it! No wonder you don't like snakes. I don't like them either - I stepped on a copperhead, about 8' long no less! - when I was around 7 years old, my aunt smashed it with a hoe and the imprint of its skin was on the rock she killed it on forever. Scary!

Oh, shoot. My kids have snakes. They're quite sweet. I don't like to be surprised by them outside, and that's what always happens, right??

I think I'll be watching every swing set Kelly gets on for the rest of her life, her children and their children's life.

-- not a snake fan in Austin.
